"Dagger Dancer" is an anti-Japanese war drama directed by Li Qing and starring Zhao Fei and Chu Xiaolei. The play takes the history after the Japanese army captured Nanjing in 1937 as the background, and tells the story of Communist Party member Bailang uniting the revolutionary forces and launching life-and-death battles with the Japanese spy agencies in Wuhan time and time again.

The plot in the play took place in December 1937, when the Japanese army captured Nanjing and created the "Nanjing Massacre" that shocked the world. In order to realize its ambition of "subject to China in three months", the Japanese army turned to attack Wuhan. At this critical moment, Gu Jianfeng, an underground party member of our army and lieutenant colonel of the national army, died in the mission of assassinating Neji Okamura. Gu Jianfeng's wife, Bailang, was appointed by the organization to lead a small team to rescue two American doctors who fled Nanjing and came to Wuhan with video data of the Nanjing Massacre. In the life-and-death contest with the Japanese secret service, they successfully completed the task.

The Bailang team then undertook a series of important tasks, such as getting rid of the commander-in-chief of the Japanese army in Wuhan and recapturing the national treasure, crushing the negotiating conspiracy between the Japanese army and the Kuomintang surrender faction, blowing up the Japanese army’s weapons of mass destruction arsenal, rescuing the American pilots, and breaking into the Japanese 101 laboratory. The Bailang team united with all anti-Japanese forces, and showed tenacious fighting spirit and sacrifice in the life-and-death contest with the Japanese spy agencies stationed in Wuhan. In the end, they all sacrificed their precious lives for the freedom and dignity of the country.
