This film is adapted from the novel "Queen of the Bombay Mafia" by S. Hussein Zaidi, It tells the story of the young rich girl Ganga Hajwandas who elopes to Mumbai with her boyfriend, but is sold to a brothel and becomes the powerful brothel proprietress Gangubai Katiyawadi.
