The story takes place in 1909, when the Danish Alabama Expedition led by Captain Einar Mikkelsen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) headed for northeast Greenland. The aim was to try to overturn U.S. claims to sovereignty over the area amid a dispute over whether Greenland was two islands at the time. Mikkelsen made a decision. He left the crew and the ship, accompanied by an inexperienced crew member, Ivor Iverson (Joe Cole), and embarked on a challenging journey to the North Pole with a sled across the ice.

In the freezing cold, two explorers face extreme environments and brutal weather. Not only do they have to deal with cold and storms, but they also have to overcome a lack of food and resources. However, their courage and perseverance allowed them to persevere and keep going. In this remote world of ice and snow, they found conclusive evidence that Greenland was an island.
