"Different Roads to the Same Goal/The Defendant" is a crime series produced by the BBC with six episodes in total. Unlike most TV shows that tell the stories of characters from different realms of Britain, this series consists of six separate stories with no plot connection to each other. These stories revolve around ordinary people at the grassroots level of society, including soldiers, plumbers, primary school teachers, taxi drivers, crematorium workers and paramedics. These people are not bad by nature, but have to do things against the law for some reason. In the end, they all need to stand in the dock of the court and accept the judge's decision: guilty or not guilty. The audience also needs to think about the fairness of the judgment and the legitimacy of the severity of the judgment

Another commonality of the stories in the series is that each episode is based on the reality of the defendant walking from the detention center to the court.
