1937年，热河人佟家儒背井离乡来到了上海，他在上海的一个中学里面教国文，他有着一身书生意气，深刻的认识到了当时国家的大背景以及急需解放的状态，可是他天性懦弱，不敢和敌对分子正面硬，刚也不敢面对现实。他有一个学生叫做欧阳，他认为应该为国效力，成立了铁血英雄团，开始铲除汉奸，他需要帮手，就这样求上了他的老师佟家儒，他也只能硬着头皮答应了他。他在老乡关大刀和妻子认识成为了一名优秀的特工，但是他的养女变成了残疾，妻子也被日本同胞杀害了，佟家儒本想再次向南逃去，但被迫留下。他目睹了侵略者残害同胞忍气吞声，却只能保住性命。最后他终于想要告别这样懦弱的自己，以自己当作诱饵，帮助了国共合作的同志们炸毁了日本的特务基地。
