19世纪40年代的台湾，俊朗的青年陈秋水（陈坤饰）是王家千金王碧云（徐若瑄饰）的家庭教师，两人一见钟情私定终身，两人度过了短暂甜蜜的日子。不久后，因为秋水是左翼时局动荡只能回到大陆，两个相爱的人虽然被分隔两地，但是心中也限定的思念守护对方。 秋水在大陆的战地行医，一直给碧云写信表达思念之情，但是却都石沉大海，碧云这边顶着压力生下两人的女儿陈瑞，以儿媳的身份侍奉秋水的母亲艰难度日。战争结束后，部队护士王金娣（李冰冰饰）跟着秋水来到西藏，一路上无微不至的照顾让秋水十分感动，于是便和王金娣结婚。 80年代，王碧云带着女儿来到大陆，终于在闽西的一间医院里面找到了因为出诊被泥石流砸伤的秋水，秋水在半昏半醒之间看到了碧云，嘴里一直呢喃着碧云的名字。 In Taiwan in the 1840s, the handsome young man Chen Qiushui (played by Chen Kun) was a member of the royal family. The tutor of Qianjin Wang Biyun (Xu Ruoxuan), the two fell in love at first sight and made a private decision for life. The two spent a short and sweet life. Soon after, because Qiushui was a leftist and the current situation was turbulent, he could only return to the mainland. Although the two lovers were separated, they still guarded each other with limited thoughts in their hearts. Qiu Shui practiced medicine in the mainland on the battlefield, and has been giving Bi Yun wrote to express his longing, but nothing came to light. Biyun was under pressure to give birth to their daughter, Chen Rui, and served Qiushui's mother as a daughter-in-law. After the war, army nurse Wang Jindi (played by Li Bingbing) followed Qiushui to Tibet. Qiushui was very moved by the meticulous care along the way, so she married Wang Jindi. In the 1980s, Wang Biyun brought her daughter to the mainland , finally found Qiushui in a hospital in western Fujian, who was injured by mudslides because of a visit. Qiushui saw Biyun in a half-conscious state, and kept murmuring Biyun's name in his mouth.
